I went to my friend's lake cabin in Minnesota yesterday and it was pretty fun. We brought our Gamecube since we knew we wouldn't be swimming the entire time, and we sure spend a lot of time playing it. We brought Digimon Rumble Arena 2 and then somehow forgot to bring the memory card that had all the characters unlocked on it (dang Gamecube and its memory cards :XD: ). We then played Kirby Air Ride and then for the rest of the time played Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Some of the kids there were pretty good (my friends, brother, and I have been playing for years) but there also were some younger kids whose first time playing was yesterday. I'm not sure how old they were, but they really enjoyed playing Smash (They really liked Yoshi, Captain Falcon, Mr. Game & Watch, and Falco). Naturally, after awhile their dad wanted them to stop playing (or else they'd play it all night) but I think they enjoyed playing.

I always feel like kids these day (a certain age and younger) aren't as into console gaming as a lot of were when we were younger. I see little kids on tablets and phones playing games all the time (my 5 year old second cousin has a freaking IPad) and rarely 3DSes and other handheld consoles. When I was kid, so many people my age, older, and younger, were all into Gameboys, DSes, PSPs, and all the home consoles of the times. Nowadays it seems like it's teens and young adults who are into handheld and home consoles (not to mention the ever-growing computer gaming market). I'm just kind of happy that those little kids at my friend's lake cabin were interested in playing with us because usually most of them barely bat an eye at these games when we bring them. It's almost kind of sad.

Of course, some of the parents of those kids are a bit overprotective. My parents commented that if the mother of those little kids was there then they would have never been allowed to play that game (I was like four or five when my older cousins let me play Melee and my parents didn't know until we were hooked so they were like whatever). I also heard one of the parents say that their kid is ten and has only drank ten sodas in his life (such a little amount these poor kids). I mean, there's nothing wrong with looking out for your kids but restricting too many things is a good way to spark a rebellion.

Oh well, at least we were able to give these kids a taste of Smash. I mean, how can one not like being able to fight using a number of colorful characters from all kinds of games?

Good point!I think since young kids are handed a tablet from the time they're one year old it seems like it is too much work to use a console to play a game.

Also the soda thing...honestly parents...all you have to do is not bring soda into your house when you go grocery shopping- if you don't want kids to drink it. Restricting it from them is only going to make them want to binge drink it when they leave the house, which will hurt them in the long run.
